美國自由行最好玩的地方，就是，你可以自己開著車子，到處去造訪他們的國家公園。不管是城市或是鄉村，美國政府都會把一些必看的景點，規劃成為一個國家公園，他們稱之為National Parks，藉此讓觀光效益達到最高。小編我本人就曾經花了兩個多禮拜的時間，從加拿大一路開車到聖地亞哥，途中去了Grand Canyon大峽谷、Yosemites優勝美地、Crater Lake、Death Valley (死亡谷)。每一個景點都會讓你驚艷不已，因為這些景色是在亞洲絕對看不到的，尤其是大峽谷和優勝美地是我最喜歡的兩個公園。

讓我們來看看美國的這些名勝，你最想去哪一個呢? 這篇文章會跟大家分享美國幾個“最…厲害的景點”，所以你會看到很多形容詞用“最高級” 的文法，我們來看看最深的河、最高的山、最長的河在哪裡吧!

The United States is home to a bunch of superlative sights

當你使用 home of something，可以用來形容一個地方是 “甚麼” 的故鄉，也就是我們常使用的 “溫泉鄉” Home of hot springs之類的用語。 Bunch of 是很多的意思，也可以用來形容一堆東西。Superlative sights: 看到super可以聯想到 “超級”，所以大致可以推斷，應該是在說很厲害的東西，是的，這個形容詞是用來形容美國的這些 “名勝” 都是很厲害的sights (景點)。

The world's largest living tree resides in California

在加州有一棵全世界 largest 樹! 在這裡使用 living tree 用來強調目前還 “存活著” 的樹木。Reside 這個動詞用來表是這個樹木 “位於” 美國加州。Reside 也可以用在人身上，當你要說你住在哪裡的時候，你可以說 I reside in Taipei city or I reside in Taiwan.

In Oregon, the country's deepest lake draws nature lovers

在西部的 Oregon 這個州，有一個美國 “最深” 的湖泊。這邊這個動詞draw，雖然跟畫畫的draw一樣，不過，在這裡是指 “吸引” 或是 “引起…的注意”，所以，當你在一個場合想要吸引大家的目光時，就可以說 Let’s draw everyone’s attention。你也可以說，這個表演讓人目不轉睛，the show draws everyone’s attention。Nature lovers 就是指大自然愛好者。當然，lover這個名詞也可以用在其他地方，比如說，travel lovers (旅遊愛好者)，food lovers (食物愛好者)，等等。

Deepest lake in the U.S.: Crater Lake, Oregon. The dazzling body of water is nearly 2,000 feet deep. Dazzling的意思是眼花撩亂，body of water是指Crater Lake這個湖的整體將近有2000英呎那麼深喔!

Largest living tree: General Sherman, Sequoia National Park, California. The sequoia is the world's largest living tree measured by the volume of its enormous trunk.

The volume of 是指樹幹的整體大小。Trunk是樹幹的意思，也可以用來形容車子的後車廂。Enormous是指一個東西非常的巨大，大到你無法想像的程度。

Lowest spot in the U.S.: Death Valley, California. The valley's lowest point is 282 feet below sea level. Death Valley is the hottest place on Earth with a scorching record high of 134° F (57°C) on July 10, 1913.

美國最低點就在加州的死亡谷裡，最低點甚至比海平面還要低上282英呎。而且是世界上最熱的一個地方。在這裡用Scorching來形容他熱的程度彷彿如快要燒焦那樣熱。Record high可以用來形容一件事情 “破紀錄”。

Tallest mountain in the world (measured from the ocean floor): Mauna Kea, Hawaii. At about 33,000 feet, from base to peak, this dormant volcano is taller than Mount Everest.

世界最高的山，是在夏威夷。不過，這個高度是從ocean floor也就是海的最底層為基準。Base是底層的意思，peak是高峰的意思。Peak 也可以用來形容一件事情達到最高峰，比如說，交通高峰期就是peak hours，旅遊高峰期就是peak season。

Highest mountain in North America: Mount McKinley, Alaska.The mountain is 20,320 feet high.

Tallest natural bridge in U.S.: Rainbow Bridge National Monument, Utah. The bridge is 290 feet tall.

Sunniest place in the U.S.: Yuma, Arizona. Yuma is the sunniest place in the United States. It also holds the Guinness World Record for sunniest city on Earth.

美國最晴朗的一個地方就在Arizona的Yuma，而且還擁有金式世界紀錄喔! Hold在這裡是指 “座擁” 這項殊榮的意思

Northernmost point in contiguous U.S.: Northwest Angle Inlet in Minnesota, near the Ontario border. "The Angle" sits at 49.22 north latitude.

美國最北端的一個點，用Northernmost來形容。接近跟加拿大安大略省的border (邊界)。Sits在這裡是指 “坐落於…”

Deepest canyon in North America: Hells Canyon in eastern Oregon, eastern Washington and western Idaho. At its deepest, the canyon plunges 2,452 meters (8,043 feet) from the tip of He Devil Peak to the Snake River.

北美最深的峽谷 (canyon)，從最高點的He Devil Peak到低處的Snake River會有2452公尺的落差。Plunge這個動詞是指高度下陷的程度。這裡的tip是指河流的 “一端”。

Longest river in U.S.: Missouri River. At more than 2,500miles, the Missouri River is the longest in the United States, followed by the mighty Mississippi at about 2,300 miles.

當我們在講一個東西是第一名，在接下來要講第二名的時候，就可以用followed by，意思是第二名尾隨在後。
