Ancient Egyptians' spells were 'passport' into paradise / 古埃及咒語是進入天堂的通行證

CNN 最近在做一系列的世界文化特報。

當中最引我注意的是埃及的文化及古物。

其實很多的考試也愛出跟埃及有關的文章,所以今天就來學一些跟這個迷人又先進的文明相關的單字吧。

 

Famous Pharaohs

 

Pharaohs were the kings or queens of Egypt.

They were the head of the government and high priest of temples.

 

1.   Akhenaten   =  阿肯那唐

Husband of Nefertiti. Also known as the rebel king.

 

2.   Cleopatra  =  克利歐佩特 ( 埃及豔后 )

Famous for her beauty. The last person to rule Ancient Egypt as a pharaoh. 

 

3.   Narmer ( also called Menes )  =  那爾邁

The first pharaoh of all Egypt.

 

4.   Nefertiti  =  娜芙蒂蒂

Often thought to be the most beautiful woman in the world.

 

5.   Tutankhamen =  圖坦卡門

Became king at the age of nine. Died when he was 19.

Tutankhamen is famous not for what he did but for what has been found in his tomb.

 

 

Famous Artifacts and Archaeological Sites

 

1.  Mummies  =   木乃伊

The ancient Egyptians believed that it was essential to mummifying a person's body after death in order to ensure safety to the afterlife.

 

2.  Pyramids  =  金字塔

The Great Pyramid of Giza is the largest in Egypt and one of the largest in the world.

It was also one of the seven wonders of the world.

 

 

3.  Royal Portraiture  =  皇族肖像畫 或 塑像

The most famous ones are.....

(a)  The death mask of Tutankhamun

(b)  The bust of Nefertiti

 

4.  The Great Sphinx  =  獅身人面像

A sphinx is a mythical creature that has a lion's body, but a human head.

It's one of the world's largest and oldest statues.

 

5.  The Rosetta Stone  =  羅塞塔石碑

It bears three inscriptions: the top in ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs, the second in the Egyptian demotic script, and the third in ancient Greek.

 

 

Geography

 

1.  Cairo  =  開羅

The capital of Egypt

 

2.  Luxor  =  盧克索

Luxor was the ancient city of Thebes, an economical and cultural center of ancient Egypt.

Site of many monuments and thus a main tourist attraction.

 

3.  The Nile River  =  尼羅河

The longest river in the world.

 

4.  The Red Sea  =  紅海

Most people should know the story of Moses crossing the Red Sea.

There are many legends about the curses of the pyramids.

 Anyone that dares to disturb the mummies in their tomb will be doomed.

Do you think those curses are real ??

I think they are.

With the amount of jewelry in the tombs, it's only wise to try and protect the pyramids.
